Black History Month

On 31 October 2013 NOTICED was fortunate to welcome Chuka Umunna MP to deliver a breakfast seminar at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. At the event, he shared his experiences both as a City lawyer and as the first black politician to be appointed as a shadow cabinet member. Chuka addressed these issues to a room of students, lawyers, legal and community partners, with an emphasis on the need to address the issues of class and social mobility in the ongoing quest for race equality. After an engaging presentation Chuka took questions from the audience, which ranged from his views on the recent cuts to legal aid, to advice to those following in his footsteps.

Alia Campbell, LPC Student and BSN Events Committee member, gave her summary of the event:

“I recently attended the NOTICED event and was very impressed with the turn out on a rainy Thursday morning. Fortunately the mood was brightened after a quick networking session before the event began with Chuka Umunna giving an introduction into his background, career and current position in parliament.”
